Putting things together the right way

I still remember our first American exchange student Kaaren, who lived with my family in Denmark when I was 13. While preparing a lunch pack for the next day at school...

...typical Danish rye bread and different kinds of sliced cold meat, cheese, liver paste, cucumber and tomatoes were lying on the kitchen counter. We made our own open sandwiches – in Danish ‘smørrebrød’ – and I was amazed to see how Kaaren put things together in a different way than we used to do. Especially the mayonnaise on liver paste was weird. Raising my own children has given new proof to the fact that the way we prepare our food highly depends on the way we have learned it from our parents. It is indeed fruitful to be reminded of how things can be done differently and still be right for the person in question.
