Spring time is when the Danes bloom

Spring has arrived. The birds sing and the days get longer. Flowers bloom and cyclists return to the streets. An English man living in Denmark told me that even the Danes bloom at spring time.

While nature changes its colours, the smiles turn bigger and the atmosphere more informal. We gather at outdoor cafés, in the parks, at the harbour and on the beach and get together more.

If you arrive as a foreigner to Denmark during spring and summer, it is typically a lot easier to settle than if you arrive autumn and winter when the cold and darkness reduce our physical and mental surplus to take care of each other. So the spirit of the Danes changes with the seasons; sometimes even from one day to the other depending on the weather. It is no coincidence that we possess something like a world record in the number of official daily weather forecasts on radio and TV; we need to prepare ourselves for what is to be expected. The shifts arrive no matter if we want them or not so we can just as well get the most out of them. Enjoy the spring!
